Changes coming to My Summer Girl Books

Hello all,

Since it is the week of my one year blogoversary (I will never get tired of saying that.) I felt it would be the perfect time to talk about the changes that will be coming to My Summer Girl Books.

Book Stalking 101- This meme involves a lot of picture hunting, commenting and research. I will be scaling back the work involved in this project. Actually, mainly cutting off my opinions. I'm limiting myself to a one or two sentences maximum. There will no longer be a huge paragraph of text under the pictures. (Oh yes, I know how all of you are just distraught over that. *wink*) Otherwise the meme should stay pretty much the same, which reminds me, I have to get on that!

Fan Letter Friday- This meme is very near and dear to my heart. I love giving authors the recognition and warm comments they deserve. However, it has clearly become immensely difficult for me to keep up with doing it every single week. I want to be sincere, not harried in those letters. Therefore, FLF will be limited to once or, possibly on a rare occasion, twice a month.

*Top Ten Tuesday will be staying as is, maybe with a little less commentary on my part.*

Contests- I know how all of you adore contests. Getting free books and bookmarks is no doubt fun, but until I have better resources, I can't do it very often. My blogoversary giveaway and one around Halloween are all I have planned at the moment. Please do not comment about the lack of contests. I'd love to run more, truly, but I don't have the money to do that right now.

Bookish information- I'm going to make an effort this year to add in more bookish information. It would be like... highlights about authors, books or other things. Any information I find out, basically, that I'd like to share with all of you. This is not supposed to turn into a meme however, so don't look for it on a regular basis.

Blog Design- I would love nothing more than to change the layout of this blog. (It's very cute, but I've wanted something more personalized from day one.) I will hopefully be able to earn enough money to be changing the blog design this year. There will probably be a heads up (in the form of a celebratory post) if I can settle on a design and find a graphic designer to do the job.

At this point in time, I will not be switching to a .com address or changing my blogging url any time soon. That being said, I am looking to change the url to something more professional than my twitter name. The earliest possible time I would change it is at the end of 2012 since I'm currently signed up for a few challenges with the url I have now.

I would like to announce, here and now, that unless some currently unforeseeable calamity befalls Blogger or my personal blog, I will not be switching to Wordpress. I fiddled with the idea for a long time, even going as far as to make the blog to test it out, but the controls were far to sophisticated for me. I'm a simple girl at heart.

The reason I'm announcing this is some other bloggers have recently moved over to Wordpress citing a majority of problems they're having with Blogger. One person even pointed out that Blogger states in their contract that they can at any time, for any reason, with no notice, delete an entire blog. When I heard that, I went into a tailspin panic because the thought of losing almost an entire year's worth of work made me want to curl up into a fetal position and vomit for a few hours. However, I did some nosing around and found that it is possible to save all of your blog (the coding, the formatting, everything) into a file. I have an external hard drive I can save huge files like that to, and I did. As for the problems with Blogger, I've only ever had two. One was a maintenance error which deleted all the posts for a day and then recovered all of them. The other was my own fault with cookies. The formatting can be a... challenge, but aside from that, Blogger works like a dream for me.

Those are all my changes for now. I'll be sure to let all of you know if any more are coming your way.

Happy Reading,
