Book Stalking (9)

Things have been going a bit crazy in my life lately, so this month's book stalking will be a quick talk and dash. Here's all the October books I'm dying to read, and hope all of you are too.

Why Stalk? It's the last book in the Hush, Hush series! Patch and Nora will no longer be bumbling through the complications of a human/fallen angel relationship. While I'm sad for the end, I'm also seriously excited to read Silence since Crescendo left off on such a cliffhanger!

Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon released October 4th 2011
Why Stalk? I read a preview of this book a few months back during the YA Scavenger Hunt organized by Colleen Houck and it was amazing. The cover and setting in Ireland would normally have me drooling over this book, but the preview totally pushed me over to full out stalking. Plus, this lovely author got her start on inkpop.com which is a community writing website, very cool, no?

Mercy Lily by Lisa Albert released October 8th 2011
Why Stalk? Honestly? Could you imagine making the choice between letting your mother live a half-life full of sickness or participating in "mercy killing" her? That is one decision I will hope, pray and wish I will never, ever have to make. While the book sounds quite depressing, I'm still interested in reading it because I feel like I need to read a "hard" book every once in a while. One that reminds me or makes me think about things I never would have considered.

The Survival Kit by Donna Freitas releasing October 10th 2011
Why Stalk? Common themes this October seem to be death and depression as you'll see in future listings. I'm not sure why I feel like this book would be good. It's heart warming, I guess, to get a "survival kit" from your dead mother when trying to figure out how to live without her, but I'm still wary of this book.

Tris and Izzie by Mette Ivie Harrison releasing October 11th 2011
Why Stalk? Tristan and Isolde is a seriously tragic (read: depressing) love story about two star-crossed lovers. At first I was excited for the book with such a pretty cover and modern spin on the melodrama. However, after seeing reviews ranging in the mediocre to downright bad scale for this book, I'd focus on borrowing it from someone or somewhere and save your money for a book you want more.

Girls Don't Fly by Kristen Chandler releasing October 13th 2011
Why Stalk? I love reading stories where good young women who hold their stressful family members together all on their own, get to experience more than their relatives' dependence on them. I like it when the strong, non-complaining, "I can do it myself" girls realize they are allowed to share their burden with others sometimes and won't be judged for it. Plus, this might be a "I'm denying it's fall and pretending it's still summer to read this light hearted summer book" situation.

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater releasing October 18th 2011
Why Stalk? It's kissing, horses and Maggie Stiefvater, that is all I need to know. For those who need a little encouragement, it's a bout kelpies (magical homicidal water horses) being forced to race in this big competition by riders that want a lot of prizes and have very little concern for personal safety. These kelpies will drown their riders in an attempt to be free. Now that, is original, interesting and a little more than creepy.

Why Stalk? This is a fabulous series about faeries and the south, from what I've heard. Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to read these mammoth sized and supposedly amazing books, but out of respect for the fans and hope that I will read them someday, I'm putting it up here.

Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez releasing October 18th 2011
Why Stalk? A musician addicted to anxiety reducing drugs who feels dead inside living under the constant stress of being the best possible player she can be? Sign me up immediately! In all reality though, while the story does sound complicated (read: depressing) I have hope that this will be a fantastic contemp. novel about a musician learning there is more to life than being the best. Plus, she might have a nice little love interest holding her hand on the road to self-discovery. Look at that cover too, amazing isn't it?

Swear (Swoon #2) by Nina Malkin releasing October 18th 2011
Why Stalk? The long awaited sequel to Swoon, Swear has Malkin's fans all in a tizzy about it's release. This is another book I have not read but fully intend to based on recommendations. ALSO, ZOMG WILL YOU LOOK AT THAT AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS COVER?

Crave (The Clann #1) by Melissa Darnell releasing October 18th 2011
Why Stalk? I am so, so, so unbelievably over vampires. However, Crave does sound like an exciting new book, regardless of the paranormals it features. I've already requested it on NetGalley and made full plans to buy it once it comes out. What can I say? I am a total sucker for pretty covers.

Dearly, Departed (Dearly #1) by Lia Habel releasing October 18th 2011
Why Stalk? Zombies like delicious brains, I like delicious zombie stories. No, seriously, I really like zombies. Read Warm Bodies by Issac Marrion and Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey if you disagree with my stance. Plus it is amazing futuristic steampunk mixed with victorian ladies and the paranormal which makes me want to read it badly. I seriously WANT this book.

On the Fringe by Courtney King Walker releasing October 19th 2011
Why Stalk? I also like ghosts... a lot. The cover is creepily cool, which is always a plus. I'm really into secret crushes on your best friend since you were born. It's always sweet to know the love of their lives was right there for them the whole time. There was no need to search for them, they just always knew their best friend was the one.

Why Stalk? I'm sorry, I can't hear over the shrill fangirl screaming of every single Julie Kagawa devotee. Unfortunately, I only ever read the first book in the Iron fey series. It's very good, full of fantasy with amazing writing, I'm never quite sure why I stopped reading them. Anyway, yay for all the people looking forward to this book, and for those who aren't, read the series and then get back to me.

Why Stalk? Another series I have yet to tackle in my very long list of things I need to read. I will not lie to you, I have only 2 reasons to be interested in this book. 1) The publisher sent out sneak peaks of the second book and prizes, which always endears me to people. 2) I have a bizarre obsession with poisons, specifically Belladonna aka Deadly Nightshade.

Why Stalk? It's House of Night's ninth book, that's pretty special. I used to read the series, but I stopped following it after a couple of books (yet I still collect the series in the hopes I will read it.) This is basically up for all of the fans of House of Night, and for my sister, who is seriously addicted to these books.

That's all for this month! I hope you enjoyed these new releases as much as I have. Comment below please if you'd like me to add any other books to the list of debuts.

Happy Reading,
