Fan Letter Friday (16)

This is fan letter friday. All the time I see nice, special, kind and good authors on twitter, facebook, their own blog, etc. that I make friends with or follow on accident and I adore them. I like them as more than authors. I like them as people. So, I decided, since I don't have time to review every single book these people have written, I'm going to write to them. I am going to flaunt my love for them all over the internet and hopefully brighten their day. I am going to sound, insane, rambly and possibly like a stalker, but that's just part of the fun right?

Dear Tahereh Mafi, (author of Shatter Me)

I, sadly, am not one of the privileged few who've gotten to read your book. (*sob*) However, I am working on getting a copy as soon as it's released in stores. I've been interested in Shatter Me ever since The Story Siren talked about it in IMM. A girl who can't touch people for the fear of killing them is fascinating, I can't wait to meet Juliette!

You might be wondering why I'm writing a fan letter, when I haven't read your book. The answer is Tumblr. I follow you on tumblr and you constantly post or reblog things that I love. If tumblrs are really a look at a slice of a person's mind, I already really like you. I might be haunting your page looking for updates constantly. I share your obsession with coats, quotes and books. You are awesome. I will NEVER unfollow. :) (Unless there's like this cosmic implosion and tumblr gets deleted or taken down. Then, I might have to unfollow you.)

I bet the single most asked question the first time people see your name is "how do you pronounce that?" Or, if hearing it for the first time, "how do you spell that?" Does it bug you to hear that question often? (Unless Tahereh Mafi is your pen name, of course.) As a fellow person with an unusual name, I can understand. I've been called Dool-cy, Darcy, Delaney, Ducky, Duky, and even Daria once as people try to say Dulcy (Dull-C). I've even had to see some very odd spellings like Dulcie, Dulcey or Dulce. So, when I meet a person with a "different" name I must immediately know how to spell it correctly and the exact pronunciation to prevent mix-ups.

I love all of your decorative hijabs. (I did a google search to find a picture of you and ended up seeing you in a few of them.) Some students in my college wear them as well. In my speech class a girl did a presentation on how and why they are worn. It was very interesting. I love learning about new cultures. (Why yes, I am a nerd.)

Once again, I can't wait to read Shatter Me when it comes out and I'll be seeing you on tumblr. :)

P.s. I adore your caps lock abuse BECAUSE I DO THE SAME THING.

P.s.s. Wow, you are soooooo pretty. O.O

Love,

  1. Ooo! We've been wondering what she looked like, but we couldn't find pics on her website or blog. Thanks for showing us. (Duh, Google images, why didn't we think of that?) We've heard good things about SHATTER ME, and this is a very sweet letter. :)
