I'm sure you've heard by now....

Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) has officially been cast as Katniss Everdeen for the Hunger Games movie. I think she's a gorgeous girl, but she was also one of the last people I would have thought of for the role. This is mainly due to the fact that I haven't ever seen her act in anything. (I will remedy this when I can get my hands on Winter's Bone.) However, as one of my friends said, I am glad they chose an actress on the older scale of girls they were considering. Some of the other possibilities had looked a lot younger than I pictured Katniss and I didn't want someone who could pass for my younger sister playing this tough character.

Lawrence is also relatively unknown and new so there isn't a whole lot to judge her on. I saw her on the Oscars in interviews and such and she seemed like a very nice and sweet girl. She also looked like a life-sized doll. (Do not get offended yet, hear me out.) What I mean by that is, she has gorgeous blonde hair, voluptuous figure, and a lovely red dress. She looks every inch of a glamorous Hollywood actress, which makes it harder for me to see wiry, sharp, difficult, resourceful little Katniss hiding in there. Then again Winter's Bone, from what I've seen, also looks like a grity, emotional piece so I'm not sure what to think. I'm withholding judgement... at least until Peeta or Gale is cast and I can look at the kind of chemistry they're going to have to make.

In honor of yesterday's casting Katie of Sophistikatied Reviews (Remember my interview with her?) did a fan art piece of Jennifer Lawrence decked out as Katniss. I have to say this picture went a long way in me believing she could be Katniss.

What do all of you think of the casting? Comment to let me know. :)

Happy Reading and movie watching,
